NEW CHINA FOOD SAFETY LAW TAKES EFFECT JUNE 1, 2009
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service confirms that on February 28, 2009, China's National People's Congress Standing Committee passed its first comprehensive Food Safety Law after five years of drafting. The new law takes effect June 1, 2009. On January 13, 2009 the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule that no longer requires two compounds, propylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate to be regulated as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under the Clean Air Act for purposes of meeting the national ambient air quality standard for ozone.
